The Female Design Council proudly presented a special member installation at the 2024 Salon Art + Design, showcasing the extraordinary talent of eight FDC members in the iconic South Hall of the Park Avenue Armory.

The installation garnered widespread attention, with press coverage from Cool Hunting, Elle Decor, Cultured, Town & Country, and Interior Design.

Many thanks to Salon Art + Design for supporting this celebration of women in design.

The FDC members and their selected works on view included:

Kristi Bender & Wendy Schwartz / Cuff Studio

Kristi Bender & Wendy Schwartz of Cuff Studio are showing the Fraggle Block Stool. For any fan of the unexpected or a humorous room modifier, the Fraggle Block Stool brings it all. The tactile appeal of the luxurious longhaired lambskin contrasts with an architectural oak block base. This is the first time this stool has been presented in its new colorway: grey portobello lambskin on a charcoal oak base.

Urvi Sharma / INDO-

Urvi Sharma of INDO-, showing the Purdah Mirror. Referencing the silhouette of palace windows from which women viewed public processions, the Purdah Mirror invites you to experience the elegance and charm of a bygone era, while seamlessly blending tradition with contemporary aesthetics.
A brass veil hangs from a gilded bar to create a soft, hazy reflection, adding an element of mystery and wonder to the space it resides in.
Available in two sizes, the full length and wall mirror, and in three metal finishes, Purdah is perfect for hallways, dining rooms, or above a mantle.

Helena & Natasha Sultan / Konekt

Helena & Natasha Sultan of Konekt, showing the Silo Console Table. Inspired by the form and function of grain silos, the Silo Collection strikes a balance between utilitarian purpose and aestheticism. This sculptural console features solid wood and hand-finished brass or stainless steel-wrapped legs.

Available with or without optional hollow brass domes that sit atop the table to continue the shape of the cylindrical legs, transforming them with a striking and elegant presence. The magnetized domes are removable, revealing inlay brass and a playful location to store small objects from keys to matches.

Lisa Sacco

Lisa Sacco, showing a new Vital Friction: Calescent II Sculpture. Experimentation and research underpin Lisa's design practice which aims to foster material engagement and deepen our sensitivity to the world around us.  Simple yet complete gestures serve as both encounters and confrontations within the system of design and use of everyday objects. Calculated intervention allows her to bend meaning, usurp convention, and allow objects to speak for themselves.

Megan Sommerville of MATERIA, showing the PLATEAU III.FTH Floor Lamp. Tina Scepanovic

Tina Scepanovic, showing Gobstoppers No. 24. Inspired by life in lockdown, Gobstoppers represent playful attempts at tracking time in the absence of an external reference. Often interpreted as abstractions of calendars, the series is meant to be comical as each piece is not quite right. These immortalized mistakes convey a sense of optimism and remind us not to take ourselves too seriously.

Open for a limited number of commissions per year, Gobstoppers are available in a range of hand-painted historical finishes and specialty commercial finishes.
