Womxn need more opportunities in design,

We’re creating them.

The Female Design Council (FDC) is the premier professional membership network and advocacy organization for womxn in design, architecture and the applied arts. The FDC’s mission is to advocate for equity and tangible gender parity in the design industries and provide access to professional opportunities for our members.

WHO ARE WE / WHAT DO WE DO?

The FDC is a widely inclusive organization, our members include architects, curators, interior designers, woodworkers, industrial designers, textile
designers, sculptors, glassblowers, metalworkers, jewelry makers, design
writers, ceramicists, educators, archivists, gallerists, and hundreds of other
professionals in the business of design.

The FDC produces pertinent programming, panel discussions, business development opportunities, engaging events, and exhibitions for its members
and the full design community. The FDC generates and promotes exhibition and collaboration opportunities, media exposure and mentorship for its members.

DIVERSIFY DESIGN!

  • The Female Design Council knows it is critical and possible to achieve full equity, diversity and inclusion in design.

  • We must do more as an entire design community to amplify Black, AAPI, indigenous and ALL WOC voices and vision.

  • By increasing both opportunities for WOC and making diversity a priority for our membership, we believe more dynamic collaboration and creativity can occur.

  • We have an equity mindset and use this as a lens on all programming and opportunities — and you should too.

During the pandemic, the FDC was dedicated to providing real-time crisis and critical business information alongside industry-specific support. The FDC generates and promotes exhibition and collaboration opportunities, media exposure and mentorship for its members. In 2020, the FDC launched a grant program distributing monetary grants for underrepresented communities, with the first in 2021 directed towards Black womxn in design, and then in 2022, for all womxn of color. Also in 2020, the FDC launched a free Mentor Match program, connecting professional level mentors with aspiring designers and college students, a no-cost, community driven program for anyone over 18 years of age.
In support of its mission of inclusivity, the FDC provides 25+ gratis memberships for womxn of color annually.
